Coordinator of Clinical Bioinformatics, Human Health Genomics

Gabriele Bucci is the coordinator of the Human Health Genomics research area at the Center for Omics Sciences at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, Milano (Italy). His research interests focus on the development and analysis of whole genome/targeted NGS approaches for the investigation and reporting of clinically relevant variants. The research he is coordinating supports clinicians in interpreting sequencing results, and decisional tumor-board by providing ad hoc genomic and bioinformatics expertise. The main bioinformatics solutions for Molecular Biology and NGS, he masters, include RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, WES, WGS and other less frequently used -omics.
He helped develop several in house variant calling strategy for the genetic profiling of whole exome sequencing data, and also several mutational screening (NGS panel) for the detection of specific disease variants.

He holds a degree in Molecular Biology and a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology. After his PhD, he won a postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Oncology/Applied Bioinformatics, at Istituto Europeo di Oncologia in Milan. Afterwards, he strengthens his bioinformatics skills, working as Bioinformatician at COGENTECH srl. Before starting his research position at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, from 2011 to 2013 he worked as postdoctoral fellow in the Unit of Genomics and Bioinformatics at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT@SEMM).
