Office of Biotechnology Transfer

The Office of Biotechnology Transfer (OBT), established in 1992, acts as an interface between the research developed at the San Raffaele Hospital and the business community in the life science sector.

The mission of the Office of Biotechnology Transfer is to create value from know-how, intellectual property, human resources and research facilities available within Ospedale San Raffaele.

Activities

  • Scouting, evaluation, protection and management of Intellectual Property Rights
  • Promotion of research results towards the life science w/w business community
  • Negotiation and management of sponsored research projects
  • Licensing of intellectual property rights and know-how
  • Support in the evaluation and creation of spin off and joint venture in the life science sector
  • Academic Material Transfer Agreements, Academic Animal Transfer Agreements, and Industrial Material Transfer Agreements.

Achievements

The OBT has filed 163 patent families (patented technologies), on behalf of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, of which 55 are still alive at 2017. The latter correspond to a portfolio of 399 patents and patent applications, with 331 being licensed or optioned at 2017.
