Dr. Federico Pappalardo has graduated at Catania Medical School in 1995; therefore, has spent his residency program in Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. He is currently Associate Professor at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Milan, where he works as Director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Program, IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, Milano.

Main research interests are artificial respiratory support systems, with particular reference to system biocompatibility. In this field, research has focused on alternative anti-agitators, biocompatible surfaces, and platelet-like surface interactions. Scientific activity has always been characterized by interdisciplinarity, translationalism and internationalization.
