Chiara Balestrieri is the Coordinator of the Computational Cancer Immunotherapy Lab at the Center for Omics Sciences Research and a senior tenure-track researcher in the Experimental Hematology Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan.
She obtained her PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Milano-Bicocca. She then moved on to postdoctoral research at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) and Humanitas University, where she worked in the group of Gioacchino Natoli. Her research focused on epigenomics and transcriptomics regulatory mechanisms in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinomas (PDAC). Her work led to several impactful scientific publications as the first author, including a paper by Balestrieri C. et al. published in Cell in 2018. In 2020, Chiara joined the Experimental Hematology Unit as a postdoctoral researcher in Chiara Bonini’s lab, where her work primarily focused on characterizing liver metastases from colorectal adenocarcinoma (CRC), with a particular emphasis on studying the anti-tumoral immune response using omics technologies (Potenza A., Balestrieri C. et al., Gut 2023).
Driven by her strong interest in translational medicine, Chiara actively collaborates with cross-functional teams both within our institute and internationally, supporting projects aimed at identifying tumor-specific alterations using advanced high-resolution omics sequencing technologies.
