Postdoc position in Neuroimmunology Unit

A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Neuroimmunology unit, with a strong collaboration with SR-TIGET, at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele on the project "Engineered microglia-based adoptive immunotherapy for neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative disease".

The post holder will join a team working on animal models of Multiple Sclerosis, with the final goal to identify new therapeutic treatments, in particular for the Primary Progressive form, still lacking effective cure. In this perspective the project aims to develop new strategy based on the delivery of therapeutic molecules in the central nervous system throughout engineered microglia cells. Indeed, the replacement of microglia by engineered transplanted cells has proved successful and now offers the opportunity to deliver therapeutic molecules in the central nervous system of patients affected by neurodegenerative disease. In this project, we will study the role exerted by hematopoietic stem cell derived-microglia in neuro-inflammatory models, by molecular, morphological and functional characterization of these cells. Moreover, once engineered for the expression of anti-inflammatory and pro-remyelinating molecules, we will evaluate their therapeutic potential in a Multiple Sclerosis model.

Eligibility criteria

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD scientists who wish to advance in their academic training and consolidate the research experience in cell biology and neuroscience. A specific background in cellular and molecular biology and experience with animal model manipulation are required.

The position will be funded for at least 3 years and the salary will be determined according to the candidate experience.
