Paolo Dellabona graduated in Medicine in 1984 with Fabio Malavasi at the University of Torino, Italy, and obtained a Ph.D. in Human Genetics in 1990 from the same University. He did post-doctoral studies with Roberto Accolla at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Lausanne, and with Christophe Benoist and Diane Mathis in Strasbourg, before becoming a Member of the Basel Institute for Immunology where he collaborated with Giulia Casorati and Antonio Lanzavecchia. Since 1992 he joint-heads with Giulia Casorati the Experimental Immunology Unit at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milano, Italy, where he has also directed from 2014 to 2023 the Division of Immunology, Transplantation and Infectious Diseases. The scientific interests of the Casorati/Dellabona lab are the understanding of the development and anti-tumor functions of unconventional CD1-restricted T and NKT lymphocytes, which they contributed to discover, and how to harness them for effective cancer immunotherapy, as well as the mechanistic dissection of the immune tumor microenvironment for therapeutic targeting. He has served in the scientific advisory board of several international research institutes and funding agencies, authored 135 publications (2024) in international journals listed in PubMed and holds several patents in cancer immunotherapy
