Paola Cinque

MD degree (Univ. of Milan, 1988), specialization in Infectious Diseases (Univ. of Milan, 1991), PhD in Virology (Karolinska Inst., 1995).
Since 1995 she has been carrying out clinical, research and teaching activities at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele. Dr. Cinque's research has initially focused on viral neurological and herpesvirus infections in immunocompromised hosts. With her research groups she has established laboratory methods and strategies and assessed cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers for diagnosis and monitoring of such infections, and studied mechanisms of pathogenesis. Current research areas involve translational research on HIV Infection of the Central Nervous System, Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (viral and host/immune determinants of disease) and other HIV-associated CNS complications.
She is a panel member of the Italian HIV Treatment Guidelines, of the EACS Co- morbidities and of the Opportunistic Infections Guidelines, and of the NIH/CDC/IDSA Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents.
