Flavia Valtorta is Professor of Pharmacology and Dean of the School of Medicine at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan and Head of the Research Unit of Neuropsychoharmacology at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute. Previously, she was Member of the Adjunct Faculty at The Rockefeller University (New York) and Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Bari, as well as Director of the Division of Neuroscience at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute.
Flavia Valtorta has been working for all her academic career on synaptic function, contributing to the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms that underlie the phenomena of synaptic maturation and neurotransmitter release. She has contributed a relevant body of information concerning some of the key molecules involved in these processes, whose mutations cause neurological or psychiatric disorders (synaptopathies).
