Marco Morelli
Marco J Morelli is a theoretical physicist who has fallen in love with biology and data analysis. After the Italian laurea, he moved to the AMOLF institute in Amsterdam where he learned to model biochemical networks in bacteria, and to interact with biologists. He then moved to the University of Glasgow to model the spread of RNA viruses using genetic and epidemiological data, where he met his first next-generation sequencer, and started developing tools to analyze this new kind of data.
As a Researcher at the Center for Genomic Science of the Italian Institute of Technology, he worked on the epigenomics of cancer, developing also tools for the management of research data. At the Center for Omics Sciences at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, he coordinates now the Bioinformatics research area.
