Area coordinator, Innovation Lab

Francesca Giannese is the coordinator of the Innovation Lab research area, at the Center for Omics Sciences at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, Milan (Italy). Within the Center, she is responsible for the development of novel single-cell technologies. To this aim, she has recently set up a Drop-seq platform which is exploited for developing multiomics applications beyond single-cell transcriptomic studies. She masters strong expertise in genomics, molecular and structural biology and in-depth knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing methodologies. Before working in the COSR, from 2007 to 2012 she joined the Structural Biology Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele where she acquired competences in protein characterization from a functional to a structural perspective, specifically on novel therapeutic targets for sleeping sickness disease.

She holds a BSc in Biotechnology, and an MSc in Medical Biotechnology earned at Universita’ degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, and a PhD in Complex systems for life sciences, earned within the PhD School in Life and Health Science, at University of Turin (Italy). Her PhD studies have focused on understanding the role of epigenetic modifications in diseases development and intergenerational transmission, using both genome-wide and targeted approaches.
